Black Plague By Guy K. Henry The ambulance zoomed around the curves of the road as fast as the driver dared. Inside the vehicle the patient lay only moments away from death. His sickness was quickly choking away the last bits of life he had. The ambulance had barely stopped when the paramedics opened the back doors. Quickly they rolled the sick patient into the Emergency Room. The on-call physician wasted no time. He drew up two CC’s of Sunday School lessons into a syringe while nurses started IV’s and connected the patient to a heart monitor. The doctor shot the Sunday School lessons into the IV tube. Then he watched the heart monitor. “Nothing!” he shouted as he threw the empty syringe to the floor. “Nurse!” the doctor hollered, “Charge up the paddles to fifty-two weeks of Church!” A high-pitched whistle could be heard as sermons charged up the paddles. “Clear!” “Baam!” The patient jumped as the physician applied the paddles. The heart monitor traced a straight line. “We’re loosing him!” a nurse cried out. “Quickly,” the doctor shouted in his most authoritative tone, “Get me a one liter bag of 100% Good Works and hang it STAT!” The nurse picked up a glowing bag of Good Works and hung it on an IV pole. The room grew quiet again with anticipation as the shiny liquid slid down the tubes and into the patient’s circulatory system. “It’s not working!” said a panicky lab technician who had become caught up in the situation. The attending physician was not one to give up easily. “We need a transfusion of Type A Christian Family!” As soon as he gave the order, the transfusion bag was hung. The Liquid Christian family worked its way into the patient’s system. “Still nothing!” said the head nurse. Just then Dr. Jesus happened by the code room. He peeked in and assessed the serious situation that the patient was in. “Pardon me,” Dr. Jesus asked, “Have you tried these yet?” He was shaking a vial of pills labeled “SALVATION”. “No we haven’t, but we’ll try anything!” the doctor said. “Nurse, take those pills and jam them down his throat!” “NO!” Dr. Jesus said emphatically. The patient must take these pills himself, by his own choice.” He took the vial from the nurse and laid out the pills on a table in front of the patient. The patient looked at the pills. He debated taking them because he wasn’t sure they’d work. Time was running out. When the doctor and nurses saw the patient’s hesitation, they started encouraging him. “Take the pills!” “Dr. Jesus knows what he is talking about!” “It’s your only chance!” The sick patient reached out his hand and scooped up the red pills. He popped them into his mouth, and the room hushed. Suddenly the heart monitor came to life. “Beep…Beep…Beep…” Color returned to his face. After a while the patient sat up straight in his stretcher. “I feel wonderful!” he said. “I feel like a new man!” As a matter of fact, he was a new man. The attending doctor ran up to Dr. Jesus who was offering his pills to some people in the waiting room. “What is in those pills?” he asked. Dr. Jesus said, “These pills are the forgiveness of sins which I paid for on the cross. All those other medicines are useless when the problem is sin. Only when a person accepts my death as payment and covering for their sins can they be cured of sin. Then they can have eternal life in heaven with my father, God and I. “Hey doc,” said the emergency room doctor, “can I have salvation too?” “You sure can,” said Dr. Jesus, “it’s already paid for, yours for the asking. ---- Going to church and Sunday School is a good thing. It helps us to stay close to God and our fellow believers. It gives us an opportunity to learn about, and worship God. That said going to church and Sunday School does not erase even one sin. Only Jesus, and His free gift of salvation that he offers can do that. Doing good things is great. When we accept Jesus’ gift of salvation, we can do good works in service to glorify our wonderful God. That said no amount of good works will erase even one sin. Forgiveness comes from Jesus. Christian families and friends are a great thing. They can help up through the toughest of times. Just don’t rely on having a Christian family to take you to heaven. Only Jesus and His free gift of salvation can do that. Are you, or a friend, on a spiritual stretcher clinging to life, but drowning in sin? Have you tried various remedies? Why not try the only cure that works. It’s free. It’s more than powerful enough. It’s complete. It’s available. It’s Jesus, who died on the cross, not for His sins, but for yours and mine. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the
glory of God;” Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift
of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in
that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Is there another way? Consider John 10:1 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that
entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way,
the same is a thief and a robber.”
